Made in 1937, shortly after Paul Klee (1879–1940) fled Nazi Germany for his native Switzerland, “God of War” shows a looming, heavy-lidded face rendered in layered yellow gouache above dancing or fleeing figures, painted directly over a sheet of newspaper whose printed text mingles with Klee's own sign-like marks. The work reflects Klee's late-career response to the mounting political crisis in Europe, made not long after the Nazi regime labeled his art “degenerate” and removed it from German museums.

This is the best thing I have bought for the house all year. Every line in God of War is crisp, even in the busiest areas. It suits an old brick house better than anything I found at the stores around Atlanta. Highly recommended if you are hesitating. 😍
