During a stay in a sanatorium in 1899, seeking treatment for alcoholism, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec produced a series of circus drawings entirely from memory, partly to demonstrate to doctors that his mental faculties remained intact. "At the Circus: Work in the Ring" belongs to this remarkable late series, capturing performers and horses with the same sharp economy of line he had honed drawing dancers and cabaret performers in Montmartre. The circus drawings are considered a poignant final testament to Toulouse-Lautrec's draftsmanship, made in the last years before his death in 1901.
Printed edge to edge on a soft, durable woven area rug with a comfortable, non-slip feel.
