The Story in the Margin
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's "Equestrienne (At the Cirque Fernando)" (1888) depicts a circus performer on horseback at the Cirque Fernando in Montmartre, one of his earliest major paintings and a work he considered important enough to submit to the independent Salon des Artistes Indépendants. The bold, sweeping perspective and confident outline of the ring already show the graphic sensibility that would define his famous posters a few years later. The painting marked Toulouse-Lautrec's emergence as a serious painter of modern Parisian entertainment.
Printed with archival giclée inks on smooth, acid-free 220 gsm gallery-grade fine-art paper; available in multiple sizes.
