Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec began drawing obsessively as a child, partly as a result of the physical disabilities that limited more active pursuits after he broke both legs in adolescence, and his early sketchbooks already show remarkable fluency with animals, riders, and caricature. This sketchbook, from around 1880 when the artist was still a teenager, reflects his prodigious early talent before he moved to Paris to study painting formally. Such juvenile works offer valuable insight into the origins of his later, highly distinctive graphic style.
Jacquard-woven as a soft, double-sided tapestry throw with fringed edges — a warm layer for the sofa or bed.
