Edgar Degas painted several scenes of milliners and hat shops in the early 1880s, drawn to the specialized, skilled labor of women trimming and displaying hats as a modern counterpart to his ballet and laundress subjects. "The Millinery Shop" captures a milliner absorbed in her work, the hats themselves rendered as still-life studies in color and form arranged around the central figure. These millinery paintings are valued for extending Degas's interest in working women's labor beyond the more famous dance and theater subjects.

This did not live up to the photos on the product page. My version of The Millinery Shop looks like it was scaled up from something small. It feels thinner than I expected at this price. The fringe was already tangled when I got it open. The whole thing left a bad taste.
