Jean-Michel Moreau, known as Moreau le Jeune, was one of the most celebrated French draftsmen and engravers of the late eighteenth century, serving as official draftsman to the king's court and illustrating fine editions of major Enlightenment authors, including Jean-Jacques Rousseau's collected works. This print reflects the era's practice of commemorating celebrated writers and thinkers through allegorical imagery, imagining Rousseau's arrival among the classical Champs-Élysées, or Elysian Fields, the mythological resting place of the noble dead. Moreau's elegant, refined draftsmanship and mastery of small-scale figure composition made him one of the defining illustrators of French book art in the decades before the Revolution.

Printed edge to edge on a soft, durable woven area rug with a comfortable, non-slip feel.
