"The Lock" is one of John Constable's celebrated "six-footer" paintings of the Stour Valley, depicting a lock-keeper working the sluice gates on the Stour near Flatford Mill in Suffolk, the countryside where Constable grew up. Exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1824, it was the only one of his large Stour paintings sold during his lifetime, prized for its dramatic sky and sense of rural labor caught in a fleeting moment of light. The scene reflects Constable's lifelong devotion to what he called his "careless" native landscape, painted with unprecedented attention to changing weather.

Jacquard-woven as a soft, double-sided tapestry throw with fringed edges — a warm layer for the sofa or bed.
