This charcoal study of a seated male nude, made by John Singer Sargent around 1917 to 1921, belongs to the large series of academic life drawings he produced as preparation for the allegorical figures in his Boston Public Library and Museum of Fine Arts mural cycles. Rendered with soft stumping and confident line, it shows the same command of anatomy and light found in his celebrated portraits. The drawing is now in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Printed edge to edge on a soft, durable woven area rug with a comfortable, non-slip feel.
