Painted around 1905 to 1906, this study depicts two Bedouin men, a subject John Singer Sargent encountered during his travels through the Middle East and North Africa in the early twentieth century. Works like this one, rendered with the loose, confident brushwork of his travel sketches, reflect Sargent's fascination with the people, dress, and light he observed abroad. It is now held in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Jacquard-woven as a soft, double-sided tapestry throw with fringed edges — a warm layer for the sofa or bed.
