Painted in 1882, this genre scene shows Venetian laborers turning glass canes into beads inside a dim workshop, its darkness broken by brilliant strokes of light green and silvery white paint describing the glass itself. John Singer Sargent was drawn to the contrast between the humble surroundings and the shimmering material the workers produced, a theme he returned to in several Venice genre paintings of the period. The painting is held in the Art Institute of Chicago's Mr. and Mrs. Martin A. Ryerson Collection.

Printed edge to edge on a soft, durable woven area rug with a comfortable, non-slip feel.
