This plate belongs to J.M.W. Turner's "Liber Studiorum," his influential series of landscape prints begun in 1807 to showcase his range across different types of scenery. "Basle" depicts the Swiss city on the Rhine, a stop on Turner's early European travels, rendered in the "Architectural" category he devised to classify the range of subjects in the series. The Liber Studiorum prints, etched by Turner and finished in mezzotint by engravers under his close supervision, were hugely influential on the development of landscape art in Britain.
Jacquard-woven both sides in soft, durable yarn; insert included.
