Louis Gabriel Moreau, known as Moreau l'Aîné (the Elder) to distinguish him from his younger brother, the illustrator Jean-Michel Moreau, was a French landscape painter celebrated for his atmospheric, naturalistic views of the countryside around Paris. Working in the late eighteenth century, Moreau anticipated the plein-air sensibility of the nineteenth-century Barbizon School, favoring soft, hazy light and unpretentious rural scenery over the grand historical landscapes favored by the Academy. "Waterfall" reflects his attentive, quietly observational approach to landscape, built on careful studies of light and atmosphere rather than invented, idealized scenery.
Jacquard-woven as a soft, double-sided tapestry throw with fringed edges — a warm layer for the sofa or bed.
