“Music in the Jade Palace” is a polychrome woodblock print made during the Qianlong reign (1736–95) of China's Qing dynasty, a period when court-influenced printmaking flourished alongside a taste for elegant scenes of music, leisure and palace life. Produced in the refined workshop tradition of the era rather than signed by an individual master, prints like this one reflect the sophisticated visual culture of 18th-century Qing China. The original is held in the public-domain collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art.
