Naples has been continuously settled since the ancient Greeks founded it as Neapolis, "new city," and by the 16th century it was one of the largest and most densely populated cities in Europe, ruled in turn by Spanish, and later Bourbon, monarchs as the capital of a great southern Italian kingdom. Its dramatic bay setting beneath Mount Vesuvius, the still-active volcano that had famously buried Pompeii and Herculaneum in antiquity, made it an unmistakable subject for city-view engravers, who often included the smoking cone on the horizon as a signature feature. Naples's crowded streets, forts, and waterfront churches made it one of the most frequently mapped cities in the European printmaking tradition.

For the price this lands well above where I expected it to. The balance of light and dark in Naples came out better than I expected. This was money well spent.
It has held up through a hot summer with the windows open. It captures Naples well enough that I stopped looking for a better one. The quality of the materials is obvious the moment you handle it. The print came rolled in a rigid tube with caps on both ends. It has handled the dry air in Denver better than most things we own.
For the price this lands well above where I expected it to. There is more going on in Naples than I noticed on the website. There was a note in the box that made it feel like a person packed it. It looks good in daylight and better under a lamp. Nearly perfect, and I am not complaining.
My husband spotted this months ago and I finally gave in. There is a life to Naples here that flat reproductions usually kill. I am thrilled with the whole experience.
It looked much bigger in the room shots than it does in my hands. The finer detail in Naples does not survive up close. The quality is acceptable and the price is not. It has been a frustrating purchase from the start.
