This red chalk drawing depicts Noah's sacrifice, the Old Testament scene from Genesis 8 in which Noah gives a burnt offering of thanksgiving after the floodwaters recede. It is catalogued as after Nicolas Poussin (1594–1665), the French Baroque painter celebrated for grave, classically composed treatments of biblical subjects during his decades working in Rome. Compositions of this subject associated with Poussin survive in multiple period versions, evidence of how sought-after his religious inventions were among students and collectors. The drawing belongs to the Art Institute of Chicago's collection of Old Master works on paper.
Printed with archival giclée inks on smooth, acid-free 220 gsm gallery-grade fine-art paper; available in multiple sizes.
