Odilon Redon spent the first half of his career making dark, dreamlike charcoal drawings and lithographs he called his "noirs," exploring anxiety, the unconscious, and half-formed monstrous imagery drawn from his own imagination rather than observed reality. "Fear" belongs to this early Symbolist phase, when Redon worked almost exclusively in black and white, influenced by his studies of microscopic organisms and the writings of Edgar Allan Poe and Charles Baudelaire. Only in the 1890s did Redon turn toward the vivid pastel and oil color that defined the second half of his career.
Jacquard-woven as a soft, double-sided tapestry throw with fringed edges — a warm layer for the sofa or bed.
