Paul Cézanne occasionally drew from classical sculpture and mythology as part of his academic training, and this study of Hercules resting reflects that grounding in traditional figure drawing before he developed his mature, more structural style. Working from plaster casts was a standard part of nineteenth-century artistic education, and such studies helped Cézanne build the command of the body that later underpinned his ambitious bather compositions. The drawing offers a glimpse of the disciplined foundations beneath Cézanne's radical later innovations.

My daughter picked this out and she has better taste than I do. The detail in Hercules Resting holds up from a couple of feet away. I have bought two more since this one arrived. This shop has earned a repeat customer.
This is exactly what I was looking for, and I looked for a long time. The swing from summer humidity to furnace season is brutal here and it has not budged. I could not be happier with it.
The cream matches what I saw on my monitor closely enough. The subject of Hercules Resting is what sold me, and it delivers. Our place is a third-floor walk-up and the package came up the stairwell without a scratch. Buy it if the price works for you.
The quality is better than most of what I have seen at this price. The balance of light and dark in Hercules Resting came out better than I expected.
This sits right in the middle for me. There is enough of Hercules Resting here to enjoy without it being a standout. Good enough to keep and not good enough to brag about.
