L'Estaque, a fishing village near Marseille on the Mediterranean coast, was one of Paul Cézanne's most important recurring subjects, painted repeatedly from the 1870s through the 1880s as he developed his mature approach to landscape structure. Cézanne was drawn to the geometric clarity of the village's rooftops, the sea beyond, and the surrounding hills, using the motif to explore how a landscape could be built from underlying planes of color rather than atmospheric effect alone. His L'Estaque paintings were later cited by Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso as a direct source for Cubism.
Printed with archival giclée inks on smooth, acid-free 220 gsm gallery-grade fine-art paper; available in multiple sizes.
