The Story in the Margin
Paul Cézanne painted this view of the Bay of Marseille from the hills above L'Estaque repeatedly in the 1880s, using the panorama of sea, rooftops, and distant mountains to develop his mature method of building landscape from structured, interlocking planes of color. The high, distant viewpoint flattens the scene into a near-abstract pattern of blues and ochres, an approach that directly anticipated the analytical breakdown of form later pursued by the Cubists. This L'Estaque view is among the most celebrated and influential landscapes of Cézanne's career.
Printed with archival giclée inks on smooth, acid-free 220 gsm gallery-grade fine-art paper; available in multiple sizes.

I have mixed feelings about this one.
Thank you for writing this up. We would rather hear the mixed reviews than only the happy ones, so this is genuinely useful.
This is the best thing I have bought for the house all year. It has a substantial feel that photos cannot really show. It was the first thing my mother noticed when she visited. It is the best thing in the hallway now.
This has been the easiest online order I have placed in years. The brushwork in The Bay of Marseille, Seen from L’Estaque shows exactly why Cezanne has the reputation.
