Painted in 1894 during a return visit to Paris between his two Tahitian sojourns, "Mahana no atua (Day of the God)" imagines a Polynesian ceremonial scene centered on an invented idol, blending Gauguin's observations of Tahiti with imagery drawn from Javanese temple reliefs and his own invention. The painting reflects his broader project of constructing a mythic, spiritually charged vision of Polynesia rather than an ethnographically accurate record. Now in the Art Institute of Chicago, it is considered one of the key Symbolist works of Gauguin's career.

Printed with archival giclée inks on smooth, acid-free 220 gsm gallery-grade fine-art paper; available in multiple sizes.
