This print reproduces one of Paul Gauguin's most famous Tahitian compositions, "Manao Tupapau" (1892), which depicts his young companion lying on a bed while a spirit figure watches from behind, illustrating Tahitian beliefs about ancestral ghosts that Gauguin recorded, and partly invented, in his memoir "Noa Noa." As part of the Noa Noa woodcut suite, this version renders the haunting composition in bold, roughly carved black and white, stripped of the original painting's color to emphasize pattern and symbol. The image remains one of the most discussed works of Gauguin's Tahitian period.
Jacquard-woven as a soft, double-sided tapestry throw with fringed edges — a warm layer for the sofa or bed.
