"Maruru," meaning "thanks" or "offerings of gratitude" in Tahitian, is one of the woodcuts Paul Gauguin created for his Noa Noa suite, illustrating a ceremonial scene of offering drawn from his interpretation of Polynesian ritual life. Carved with a deliberately rough, primitivist technique that broke from refined European printmaking convention, the woodcut reflects Gauguin's search for a more elemental, symbolic form of image-making. The Noa Noa prints were produced in Paris after his first return from Tahiti, as he worked to translate his island experience into a new visual language.

The weave is tight enough to hold every bit of the detail. It transformed a stairwell that had felt unfinished for years. I am already planning the next order.
Half of this worked out and the other half did not. It sits fine in the primary bedroom and does not pull the space together the way I hoped. I would call it a fair trade.
It looks great in the kitchen and my wife noticed it before I said anything. 👌
