The Story in the Margin
Painted during his first stay in Tahiti between 1891 and 1893, Paul Gauguin's "Te raau rahi (The Big Tree)" depicts a monumental tree set within the island's landscape, its Tahitian title reflecting Gauguin's effort to describe his subjects in the language of the place rather than in French. The painting shows the bold simplification of form and rich, non-naturalistic color that Gauguin developed in Tahiti, using the island's vegetation as a vehicle for a more decorative, symbolic style of landscape painting than anything he had produced in France.
Printed with archival giclée inks on smooth, acid-free 220 gsm gallery-grade fine-art paper; available in multiple sizes.

The shipping was fast and the packing was better than most furniture I have bought. There is a life to The Big Tree here that flat reproductions usually kill. The materials are noticeably better than the last two things I ordered online…
I have bought three of these now for different rooms. The smallest marks in The Big Tree are still visible, which is the entire point. It has made me a repeat customer already.
I bought this to fill an awkward corner and it did much more than that. The texture in The Big Tree makes Gauguin feel present in the room.
The customer service here answered me on a Sunday. Every line in The Big Tree is crisp, even in the busiest areas.
It is a very good poster that costs a bit more than it should. The subject of The Big Tree is what sold me, and it delivers. It cost about twenty dollars more than I wanted to spend and I don't regret it. My only wish is that they offered a larger size.
