In 1894, Paul Signac traveled along the Dutch coast, painting and sketching its harbors, canals, and fishing boats in a series of works exploring the Pointillist technique he had helped pioneer with Georges Seurat. "In Holland—The Buoy" reflects this journey, capturing the flat light and maritime life of the Dutch coast through small, distinct dots of pure color that merge optically at a distance. The Dutch harbor scenes mark an important stage in Signac's development as Neo-Impressionism's leading champion after Seurat's early death in 1891.
Printed edge to edge on a soft, durable woven area rug with a comfortable, non-slip feel.
