Paul Signac settled in the small Mediterranean fishing village of Saint-Tropez in 1892, and its harbor became one of his most frequent subjects for the rest of his career. This lithograph was published in "L'Estampe originale," an influential Paris portfolio of original prints issued in the 1890s that showcased leading avant-garde artists working in printmaking. Signac's contribution captures the port's masts and quayside in the flattened, decorative style he developed after Neo-Impressionism's strict Pointillist phase, using color and line rather than dots alone.
