Penacook — Antique Map Print

Penacook is a village within the city of Concord, New Hampshire, taking its name from the Pennacook people, an Algonquian-speaking Native nation whose confederacy once controlled much of the Merrimack River valley before European settlement and disease decimated their population in the 17th century. The village grew around water-powered mills on the Contoocook River where it joins the Merrimack, developing into a manufacturing center for textiles and other goods through the 19th century.
