This chalk drawing, made around 1602–03, captures Peter Paul Rubens (1577–1640) at work studying the sculptural relief of an ancient Roman sarcophagus during his formative years in Italy. Rubens spent nearly a decade absorbing the art of antiquity and the Italian Renaissance, and studies like this one — recording the contours and shadows of classical carving — directly shaped the sculptural, dramatic figures he would paint for the rest of his career. The drawing is now held at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Jacquard-woven in soft, durable cotton — a warm, fully reversible throw for the sofa, bed or reading chair.
