The Fall of Phaeton — Rubens Pillow

In one of his most dynamic mythological pictures, Peter Paul Rubens paints the moment Phaeton loses control of the sun-god's chariot and is hurled from the sky, horses plunging and figures tumbling through the clouds. Painted around 1604–08, it is a whirlwind of cosmic catastrophe now in the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
