The Story in the Margin
“The Harvesters” (1565) captures the hazy, drowsy heat of a late-summer wheat harvest, with workers scything grain, gathering sheaves and resting beneath a tree in dappled shade. Pieter Bruegel the Elder (c. 1525–1569) painted the scene as part of a cycle depicting the months of the year, commissioned by an Antwerp merchant for his country home. It remains one of the earliest and most influential pure landscape-and-labor scenes in Western art, now held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Printed with archival giclée inks on smooth, acid-free 220 gsm gallery-grade fine-art paper; available in multiple sizes.
