Portrait of a Man, Possibly Girolamo Rosati Tapestry Blanket

Painted in 1533–34 by Lorenzo Lotto (c. 1480–1556/57), this portrait is thought to depict Girolamo Rosati, rendered with the psychological intensity and searching characterization that set Lotto apart from his Venetian contemporaries. Lotto, who trained near the circle of Giovanni Bellini but spent much of his career working outside Venice in cities like Bergamo, was celebrated for portraits that captured his sitters' inner emotional life rather than simple outward likeness.
