Landscape with Cottages — Rembrandt Tapestry Blanket

This etched landscape by Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669) shows a cluster of thatched cottages and a hay barn set within the flat Dutch countryside, a subject Rembrandt returned to often in the etchings he made through the 1640s and 1650s. Rather than recording an exact location, Rembrandt typically combined observed details into an idealized rural view, using fine, economical linework to suggest thatch, timber and open sky. These landscape prints reveal a quieter, more contemplative side of his art.
