This reed-pen drawing, made around 1660, shows Noah's family boarding the ark just before the great flood of the Book of Genesis, the vessel stretching across the full width of the sheet as figures gesture urgently toward its entrance. Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669) was a masterful draughtsman as well as painter and etcher, and this expressive sheet is considered one of his finest reed-pen drawings. It is held today at the Art Institute of Chicago.

It fills the space in the mudroom the way I hoped it would. The colors in Noah's Ark came through almost exactly as I hoped. Our farmhouse has a lot of empty space and this filled some of it nicely. Nearly perfect, and I am not complaining.
