“The Birth of Venus,” painted by Sandro Botticelli (c. 1445–1510) in the mid-1480s, shows the goddess Venus arriving on the shore of Cyprus atop a giant scallop shell, blown by the wind god Zephyrus and about to be wrapped in a flowered cloak. It was one of the first Tuscan paintings made on canvas rather than the costly wood panel then standard, and its graceful, linear treatment of the nude figure became one of the defining images of the Italian Renaissance. It hangs today, alongside Botticelli's “Primavera,” in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

Jacquard-woven in soft, durable cotton — a warm, fully reversible throw for the sofa, bed or reading chair.
