Sanford grew from a scattering of small mill villages along the Mousam River into one of southern Maine's leading textile manufacturing centers, anchored by the Goodall Worsted Company, whose mills employed thousands of workers by the early 20th century. The town drew waves of immigrant labor, particularly French Canadians crossing the border from Quebec, who came to work the looms and built the parish churches and neighborhoods that still define much of Sanford's character. Its transformation from farmland to industrial center within a few decades made it a fitting subject for the detailed town maps that tracked New England's rapid 19th-century industrialization.

I bought this to fill an awkward corner and it did much more than that. My guests ask about Sanford Maine before anything else in the house. It has become the thing I point to when people compliment the house. It cost less than dinner out and has given us far more. It made it through hurricane season on the coast with no problems at all. 😍
I bought this as a housewarming gift and kept it a day before wrapping it. The scan behind Sanford Maine is clean, with no obvious artifacts…
My only complaint is that I wish they made a bigger version. The smaller elements of Sanford Maine are clear enough to reward a close look. Four stars, and the fifth comes if they add more sizes.
This is the rare purchase that looks better in person than online. I bought this for Sanford Maine and got far more than I paid for. Perfect from start to finish.
Everything about this went better than I hoped. The clarity of Sanford Maine makes it look like the original was photographed yesterday.
