“Scenic View of Suzhou” is a polychrome woodblock hanging scroll made during the Qianlong reign (1736–95) of China's Qing dynasty, depicting the canals, gardens and bridges of Suzhou, a city long celebrated in Chinese culture for its scenic beauty and refined gardens. Prints like this one were popular across Qing-dynasty China both as decorative art and as idealized travel imagery of the country's most admired landscapes. The original is held in the public-domain collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art.
