Small Mosque in the Kaiserbagh — Antique Photograph Print

Felice Beato photographed the ruins of the Kaiserbagh palace complex in Lucknow in the months after the Indian Rebellion of 1857–58. Built between 1848 and 1850 as the pleasure palace of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, the Kaiserbagh was looted and shelled during the British recapture of the city; Beato's photographs of its shattered courtyards and mosques, taken as the smoke was barely clearing, are counted among the first photographs to systematically document the aftermath of war.
