This double-sided sheet at the Art Institute of Chicago is catalogued in the style of Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665), the French painter whose classical compositions defined Baroque-era art in Rome. The recto, drawn in pen and brown ink with brown wash, depicts the Incredulity of Saint Thomas, the New Testament episode in which the apostle Thomas touches the wound of the risen Christ to confirm the Resurrection; the verso carries additional figure sketches, typical of a working study sheet.
