Painted during Winslow Homer's second trip to the Bahamas in the winter of 1898-99, this watercolor shows a man washed ashore beside the wreckage of his boat after a storm, sunlight breaking through the thinning clouds behind him. It is one of Homer's most technically ambitious and somber watercolors, marking the culmination of a series exploring man's vulnerability before nature. The work is held in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.

It is priced like a splurge and feels like a fair buy. Delivery took two and a half weeks, which felt long for the price. It landed exactly in the middle for me.
It made the playroom feel finished in a way I could not manage on my own. The smallest marks in the Hurricane, Bahamas are still visible, which is the entire point. It has beaten every expectation I had.
I was expecting good and got great. It fits the kitchen like it was made for the space. It makes the kitchen feel like somebody with taste lives here. The light in the Pacific Northwest is gray most of the year and this still holds its color. Worth every dollar and then some.
The detail is unbelievable for the price. 🙂
