Winslow Homer began this watercolor while staying at a lighthouse on Ten Pound Island in the harbor of Gloucester, Massachusetts, where he frequently painted local boys fishing and waiting for their fathers to return from sea. Dated 1880-81, the work shows Homer beginning to experiment with scraping techniques to reveal the white of the paper beneath. It belongs to the Art Institute of Chicago's Mr. and Mrs. Martin A. Ryerson Collection.
Jacquard-woven both sides in soft, durable yarn; insert included.

The detail is unbelievable for the price. I have been hunting for a good version of Boy in Boat, Gloucester for two years. The finish is even and flawless right to the edges. The image is so clean that I have looked at it with a magnifier.
I'm keeping it, though I thought about sending it back for a solid week. There is enough of Boy in Boat, Gloucester here to enjoy without it being a standout. The tone is warmer than my other pieces, so it does not quite match. I have gotten exactly one compliment on it in two months.
