Painted in 1887 at Prout's Neck, Maine, this watercolor shows a boy pausing from harvesting pumpkins to gaze toward the setting sun, a return to the theme of rural childhood Winslow Homer had explored earlier in his career. Its title comes from an old English folk song about a farmer's boy, and technical analysis has since revealed that its now-faded sky originally glowed with washes of orange and pink sunset color. The painting is held in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Jacquard-woven as a soft, double-sided tapestry throw with fringed edges — a warm layer for the sofa or bed.
