In January 1904, late in his career, Winslow Homer traveled to Homosassa, Florida, to fish, producing this watercolor among his final tropical works. He placed the huge, brightly colored fish close to the viewer and cropped the composition tightly to heighten the drama of the catch, suspending the bass ambiguously between life and death. The watercolor is held in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Jacquard-woven as a soft, double-sided tapestry throw with fringed edges — a warm layer for the sofa or bed.
