Signed and dated 1890 (copyright 1889), this watercolor was painted by Winslow Homer as a study of tonal values in preparation for his etching Fly Fishing, Saranac Lake, and depicts a well-dressed gentleman sportsman fishing in the Adirondack Mountains. Rendered almost entirely in grisaille, or monochrome, it is one of only a few such watercolors Homer produced, and stands apart from his more common depictions of rustic mountain guides. The work is held in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Jacquard-woven both sides in soft, durable yarn; insert included.

Shipping took a lot longer than the estimate on the page. The detail in Netting the Fish holds up at a distance and softens if you come closer. It washed fine on cold and lost a little of its crispness. The price felt right until I added shipping to it. Good enough to keep and not good enough to brag about.
My husband spotted this months ago and I finally gave in. The smallest marks in Netting the Fish are still visible, which is the entire point. The reproduction quality makes the price look like a mistake in my favor.
This was packed carefully and showed up without a mark on it. The colors are deep without looking oversaturated. Our driver leaves everything at the end of a long gravel driveway and it still arrived in perfect shape. I would happily buy here again.
I have bought a lot of art online and this is the first time it looked exactly like the listing. The colors in Netting the Fish are richer than any version I found online. The whole thing feels like it was made by people who care about it. This one is staying with us a long time. 👌
